Blogging has really been good for me to branch out my reading. (for years the only thing I read was the Harry Potter series on repeat) Then I found an author I liked and stuck with them until I’d read everything they ever wrote. (I chose prolific authors)
Since I procrastinate too much to do the official top ten lists I thought I’d come up with one of my own. My top ten most read authors.
Goodreads made this easy, (I didn’t even know about this feature until recently, so I’m sharing in case someone else hasn’t found it yet either.) Under the shelves there’s recommendations, widgets, ect. One of those is most read authors!
1. Terry Pratchett…… 48 Books! (My Favorite: The Color of Magic)
He’s obviously my favorite author, and for good reason. His books are hilarious, each one I crack up multiple times. They also have great characters and a cool world. As with most authors his first few aren’t as well written, but they’re still some of my favorites. There are also all sorts of magical craetures, warewolves, vampires, undeaad, igors, dwarves. All with their own Pratchett flair of course. My favorite was when he spoofed Twilight before Twilight even existed! (He’s that good) In Carpe Jugulum.
His main series is Discworld and there are multiple storylines, so you can pick up any number of books to start. My favorite story line is about the inept wizard Rincewind, who is a huge coward. His storyline starts the first book in the whole series The Color of Magic. (It starts kind of weird, but stick with it, it’s worth it!) My second favorite is the guards (which must be popular because they have the most books, and originally it was only going to be one book!) which feature the city guards as they solve mysteries. (Guards, Guards! Is the first book) The main character Vimes leads the guards, and he’s great. He says he’s not very smart, but he sticks with it. My third favorite is DEATH, yes that death. He has a granddaughter too. It starts with the story of Mort. The other storylines are the wizards at the college (which starts with Rincewind’s story Sorcery), the witches (which starts with Equal Rights), a young adult series staring a witch named Tiffany Aching, (The Wee Free Men) the new storyline of Moist Von Lipwig as his tries to improve the main city, Ankh Morpork. (Going Postal) There are also plenty of stand alones. (This was all done from memory, so if anything is wrong I’ve failed as a Pratchett fangirl!)
2. L.E. Modesitt Jr…… 34 Books! (My Favorite: Alector’s Choice (Book 4)
(I won’t even go into how inaccurate that cover is…)
Modesitte writes epic fantasy and I love his worlds and magic systems.
His main series is the Recluse saga (though he’s got like a ten series, in both fantasy and scifi). He writes Recluse strangely, the first 5 is like the main story line (and oddly not my favorite) but after that they jump back and forth in time with usually two books in each time line. My favorites are Cerryl (The White Order, Colors of Chaos) and Lorn (Magi’i of Cyador, Scion of Cyador). My favorite series is the Corean Chronicles, which is about aliens and magic. It’s hard to explain! (And I wouldn’t want spoilers.) It’s good, let’s go with that. He also writes the Spellsong Cycle where singing is magic and a woman from Earth winds up there. (I think that’s his only series to connect with earth), and his latest series the Imager Portfolio which has magic that can create items. And I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting.
3. Isaac Asimov…… 27 Books! (My Favorite: Prelude to Foundation)
(Most of these are short story collections, which have overlapping stories, so it really isn’t all that many) Asimov is my favorite short story writer! All of the plots of his short stories could’ve easily been novels. He had so many ideas! My favorite is the the robot books, (like I, Robot, which the movie was VERY loosely based on). He also wrote the Foundation trilogy, which he is best known for. He was working on merging the two when he died. (Aids from a blood transfusion in the 80s) Other authors have attempted to write the books he didn’t, but I can’t bring myself to read them.
4. Terry Goodkind…… 13 Books (My Favorite: Faith of the Fallen (Book 6)
Goodkind writes the epic fantasy series The Sword of Truth, which I read because my sister liked it. (The tv show is rubbish) It’s a really good series even though the main character is like perfect and he sometimes gets a little preachy towards the end. (Not religious preachy, just righteous) But I can ignore all that, because they’re so good! I love the characters and how the main character Richard is always so tough, but that doesn’t make the plot predictable or dull in the least. The female main character kicks butt too, no one needs to save Kahlan. (Goodkind tried to end the series, but his next book flopped, so he went back to Richard and Kahlan, but my sister’s told me about the second series and I don’t think I want to read it.)
5. J.K. Rowling…… 10 Books (My Favorite: Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3)
Yes, I’m counting her short stories. I don’t think I’ve read any series more. (I’m joking about the think part. I have no clue how many times I’ve read and listened to these books!) If anyone hasn’t read Harry Potter yet, they should! Everyone should read it, at least to know what all of the hype is about. For once the hype is so worth it! I’m not a fan of the last book *don’t throw fruit* so I’ve only read that once. Did anyone else go to the bookstore at midnight to get one of the books? I did! Number 7!!
6. Rick Riordan…… 10 Books (My Favorite: Mark of Athena (Book 3)
How could this list not include Riordan? I just wrote a gush post about Percy Jackson, so I won’t say anything more except he has the best sense of humor! Riordan’s one author I’d like to know in real life!
7. Cassandra Clare…… 10 Books (My Favorite: Clockwork Princess (Book 3)
I didn’t read the Mortal Instruments until this year, because they didn’t sound like my kind of book. I was wrong. (It happens.) I’ve already wrote a post about these books, so I’ll just say I would love to be a warlock. How awesome are those powers?
8. Derek Landy…… 10 Books (My Favorite: Skulduggery Pleasant)
Again, I’ve already talked about them. I’m working on a post for the last books right now. I just have to get my hands on book Nine! It came out in August, I’m so behind.
9. Jim Butcher…… 9 Books (My Favorite: Summer Knight (Book 4)
My first foray in to urban fantasy. Harry Dresden is a wizard for hire, he’s in the phone book and everything. These books have a fantastic world, great characters, a sense of humor, and kick buttery. In other words, they rock! The Dresden Files are fantasy and mystery with tons of action! Dresden is a bit like Bruce Willis in the Die Hard movies, he always kicks butt, but he gets abused while doing it. The first 3 books of the series were great, but then they got even better! I haven’t liked the last few as much, they’re longer and they don’t seem to hold my attention as well. I still highly recommend this series! (Note: there is adult content in these books, mostly in the first one though. Harry doesn’t get lucky much after that.) Butcher also writes an epic fantasy series, which has been gathering dust on my shelf.
10. George R.R. Martin…… 9 Books (My Favorite: A Clash of Kings (Book 2)
Technically only 6 books, because goodreads counts short stories, but since his books are so long, (I’ve read 5774 pages by Martin) he still deserves to be on the list. The description of these books totally doesn’t sound like me, so it’s a good thing I started them years ago, with only the back cover to go on. I know there’s now a tv show everybody watches and raves about, but I can easily skip the adult content in the books (because wow, yeah lots of adult-ness) but it’s not so easy in a tv show. (which is on HBO, so I know it’s going to be very adult) Surprisingly there is little fantasy in these books. (I know you’ve probably heard about the dragons and the ‘dead like’ people) But most of the story is about various families trying to get the throne. (The Iron throne) There’s political intrigue, plotting, backstabbing, epic battles. (inbreeding) These books have it all! Why do I love them though? The characters! There are TONS of view points and oodles of characters and they are all so unique (I could never start a chapter and mistake one character for another) and there’s really no good and bad, but lots of gray. Martin writes for the ‘villains’ as much as the ‘heroes’ and I find myself rooting for both! My favorite characters are Tyrion, Jamie (surprisingly, once he gets a POV), Jon Snow, and Arya Stark. I know I didn’t list Dany, but I hate her storylines! Can anything else bad happen to the poor girl? (Note: Martin needs to write faster! The first book came out in 1996 and we’re only on book 5 now.)
This post got longer than I planned… Sorry for all of the book babble.
What are your top authors and how many books by each have you read?
Oh I’m ashamed to say I only tried 2 authors, that’s not a lot, I should try the others too now.
Nothing wrong with that, you only have more good authors to read. I hope you enjoy the ones you try! 🙂
I only read TMI this year as well for the exact same reason! Then I thought: it’s fantasy, let’s just give it a try. I’m so glad I did 🙂
Yeah, with all of the hype and romance I didn’t think I’d like it, but I was too curious. I’m glad you liked it too! 🙂
I keep meaning to do this post! I also want to do one of most owned authors. Needless to say, Pratchett tops both lists for me.
I planned to do this post for a while and then I had no book review to post, so I decided to finally do it. My most owned authors list would pretty much be the same as this one. (I only don’t own Sword of Truth (sis does), Mortal Instruments and Skulduggery Pleasant.) hehe Yay for Pratchett! You have good taste! 🙂
Love Terry Pratchett! Even have a couple of his books from the UK! I like the Recluse saga, too, even though it’s taking me awhile to read through it.
Terry Pratchett’s books are my favorites. I’m trying to get them all in both covers! (I only have a few from the UK) They’re releasing new ones in the UK this year.
The Recluse saga is cool how he writes it. That way if I don’t like one of the main characters, there’s always another one. Oddly enough the first main character was my least favorite. Yeah, there’s like 18 of them now and they’re all kinda long. I thought that was a good thing when I found them though, so they’d last a while.
Yeah I looove Goodreads 😀 It’d awesome.
I have read some of those 🙂
Goodreads rocks! I don’t know how I managed without it.
You have good taste in books then. 😉
Oh awesome post!!! I didnt know you could do that on Goodreads so will have to go see who mine are!! I’ll have to check out a lot of these because I’ve only read Harry Potter, Skullduggery, Rick Riordan and Cassandra Clare. All of whom I love 😉
Thanks. 🙂 I didn’t know until recently either. It was fun seeing all the authors I’ve read. I’m curious what yours are. 4/10 isn’t bad. We seem to have pretty similar tastes. I hope you like any of the books you try. 🙂
Oh be still my heart-my all time favorite author is Terry Pratchett 😀 I’m going to be re-reading the Discworld series next year, and I’m going to make it into a feature on my blog 🙂
He’s my favorite too! 😀 It’s been a couple of years since I’ve read Discworld, but I wasn’t sure I’d have time with my blog. Oh, that sounds like fun. I can’t wait to read your posts!
Harry Potter #3 was my favourite of the series, too (I’m also not crazy about the last book).
I haven’t really read any of these other authors! My most-read author is Ann M. Martin, though that’s probably because I read The Baby-Sitters Club series when I was a kid. Beverly Cleary and Diana Wynne Jones tied for second place, according to my Goodreads stats. L. M. Montgomery and Charles de Lint round out the top five.
I loved the Marauders generation, I wish she’d done more with them.
I’ve only read a couple of Baby Sitters club books off your list. I’ve always meant to read Howl’s Moving Caste and I own all the Anne of Green Gables books, but I’ve never read them.
Thanks for sharing your list. 🙂
You must read Howl’s Moving Castle, even if you’ve seen the movie. No, especially if you’ve seen the movie. They’re quite different; I think the book is much better.
I’ve only read the first two books in the Anne of Green Gables series, but I’ve read a number of the author’s other books, too. Anne actually isn’t my favourite Montgomery heroine; I prefer Emily and Pat. Oh, and Jane of Lantern Hill is a good story, too!
I actually haven’t seen the movie. (though I love anime) I always have to read the book first otherwise I feel like a traitor.
My grandma got me all of the Anne of Green Gables books, so even though I haven’t read them, I still have them. I didn’t even know there were books about other girls.
You know, I keep meaning to read Terry Pratchett, but there are so many books in Dsicworld that I don’t know where to start – any recommendations?
I’ve heard from several people that the first books were hard to get into, and the first time I tried to read Color of Magic I put it down after the prologue. I’d say either the guards books (guards guards) or the Death books (Mort or Reaper Man) Both are good and most people like them the best. (including me.) That’s the good thing, you can start with pretty much any of the books. (Especially if you start towards the beginning of the story lines.) I hope you enjoy whichever one you pick! 🙂
I’ve only heard about half of these authors, so that just means I need to add more books to my TBR, haha. Skulduggery Pleasant sounds really interesting, and I keep hearing about it, so I want to read that series one day. Great post!
That’s a good thing, I love adding books to my list. (As evidenced by how long it’s getting) Skulduggery Pleasant is a quick fun read. The first book is the best humor wise, the second book has pacing issues, but from the third on he really hits his stride and they’re all good after that.Thank you! 🙂
Thank you for the information about Skulduggery Pleasant. Now I’m even more excited to read it. 🙂
You’re welcome. 🙂 I love witty sarcastic characters. The relationship between the two main characters is what makes the books!
I didn’t know about that feature on Goodreads! Rick Riordan is my most owned, I have 31…I have hardbacks of all the Percy Jackson’s plus the new paperbacks. The collectors edition of Lightning Thief, all three Kane Chronicles(plus an extra paperback edition of the last), all five Heroes Of Olympus, plus limited collectors editions and all the small books, like The Demigod Diaries. I’d be slightly ashamed if I wasn’t so proud. I’ve read 14 not including the short books, but including the first 39 Clues. =)
My second favorite author is Cinda Williams Chima and I own and have read all 8 of her books.
Great post! And, I’m curious, what don’t you like about Harry Potter 7!? Besides 6 it’s my favorite!
I only found out about it a month ago, it’s so fun. Ooh I’m jealous of your Percy Jackson collection. I own them all the main books except Kane Chronicles 2, but they don’t match. haha nothing to be ashamed about! I’ve had the 39 Clues for a couple of months, but I haven’t read it yet. (I’m saving the Kane Chronicles too.)
The Demon King’s been on my to read list all summer. Thank you! 🙂
I didn’t like that they weren’t at Hogwarts. It also felt like they were just searching endlessly but not doing much throughout the last book and I didn’t like how a couple of my favorite characters died off page. That’s all I remember, I haven’t read it since the day it was released. (That’s the one I got at midnight ;))
Out of curiosity I checked this list on my Goodreads and I actually have multiples! For example: I’ve read 9 books from both Sarah J. Maas and Sarah Dessen, and 12 books from Cassandra Clare and Lemony Snicket. So this would be a sort-of hard list for me to make! (It also skips #10 and goes straight to #11 from #9? Ooookay Goodreads.)
I actually haven’t read a lot from any of these authors! I’ve definitely read Harry Potter, and I started A Game of Thrones but haven’t found the motivation to finish it yet. I’ve seen so much about Rick Riordan that I feel I should just read his books even though they aren’t really for me (I mean they’re all MG, right? I’m not very fond of that genre).
My favorite authors are relatively obvious since I talk about them often on my blog (Sarah J. Maas, Victoria Schwab, Sarah Dessen — to name the top 3!). Lately I’ve been leaning more towards fantasy and leaving contemporary in the dark, but I’ve found quite a few new contemporaries that I love. I would probably have a hard time doing this list because while I have read a lot of Cassandra Clare books, she isn’t so much my favorite author anymore. Make sense? XD
Fun post! 😀
I noticed that, it doubles up on the numbers where there’s a tie and then skips ahead. I changed it before I posted it, because that was annoying. I had several ties, but I ranked them by how much I liked them.
I haven’t read very many of your authors either. I have to get to Throne of Glass though! (The Archived is on my wishlist too) Yeah, my sister started a Game of Thrones and gave up right away too, it bored her. Yeah the first series of Percy Jackson is middle grade, but the second is Young Adult.
Yep, I understand. Some of these authors I haven’t read in a couple of years, but I really liked them in the past, so I figured they deserved to be on the list. I don’t think I could make a top list of favorites,it would be way too hard, that’s why I went with most read. Thanks. 🙂
I’m seriously impressed with your Pratchett count! I’m weird about reading lots of books by the same author/series in a row, so I don’t think I’ll ever get to that many of one author! I for some reason feel pulled in so many directions these days that I feel like I have to spread my reading over as many authors as possible or something crazy like that 😉
hehe yeah Pratchett’s my favorite. I read his books so quickly. (For me he’s one of those ‘oh look at the time I forgot to eat’, authors.) I do tend to get stuck on one author. I’m trying to branch out and read more different authors. I still feel the need to complete the series though.
I must admit, I have only read one J.K. Rowling book (the first HP) and 6 Cassandra Clare books of your list. As for my most read author, it is Charlaine Harris, because she wrote like 452 Sookie Stackhouse books, and I insisted on reading them all even when things got downright crappy.
Some of the authors who made my list (I also totally cheated via Goodreads too!) were Lauren Oliver, Neal Shusterman, Patrick Ness… I can’t remember any others!
Fun topic!
You stopped after one Harry Potter? Wow. I liked Clare’s Infernal Devices as much as the first trilogy of Mortal Instruments, but sometimes she gets a little too romancy for me. (autocorrect wants to make my romancy to necromancy…)
haha Yeah Harris is prolific too. I started Sookie, but I stopped with Dead to the World, just wasn’t doing it for me. (My sister’s read them all.) I own her Grave books too but I’ve never read them (My mom has, we’re a reading family)
I’ve only read 3 Patrick Ness (Chaos Walking) and I own Scorpion Shards by Neal Shusterman (It’s been on my shelf for years, I just noticed it last summer.) and his unraveling kids books are on my to read list, but I haven’t gotten to them yet. Same with the Delirium books.
Thank you!
What a great post! I am a huge HP fan! I listen to the books every night as I go to sleep. The audios are amazing. I have read and readread (and listened to the books over and over). I did go to the bookstore at midnight for books 4-7. So exciting! Nice to meet another fan. 🙂
Woops- I meant reread, not readread. 🙂
Thank you! I love Harry Potter! Jim Dale does a fantastic job of narrating. I would’ve been there at midnight for the earlier books too, but it’s a half hour drive to the nearest new bookstore and my mom hates driving in the dark. (My sister had her licence for the seventh) It’s always great to meet someone else who loves the same books!
I totally still read it reread the first time.
I’ve only read three of your top ten–Clare, Rowling, Riordan. I’ve got Clare, Rowling and Richelle Mead on my top ten! I think it’s mainly because they’re prolific authors and have the capacity to churn out a lot. They’re definitely not my all time favourites (except Rowling) and if other authors had written more, I’d read it all! x
Most read isn’t necessarily my favorites (though most are) but it would be impossible to narrow it down otherwise! I don’t know how some authors write so much! My mom’s favorite author Nora Roberts writes like 3 books a year! I know how you feel, I wish some authors would write faster!
My most read author (at least according to goodreads) is probably Jim Butcher just because I’ve followed the Dresden Files from beginning to end. Those long running series usually helps rack up the numbers for that author, and looks like it’s true for you with Pratchett too 🙂
I’ve only read until Small Favor, I keep starting it and putting it down. (Oddly at the same place each time.) I always look for authors that have written a lot of books, that way it will take me longer to go through all of them. Yep, Pratchett is my favorite! 🙂
Wow, amazing post. I feel bad because I basically didn’t know any of them until you reached Harry Potter and then I saw some along the way down that I’ve read or heard of before. Great list here though. That’s a lot of books!!
Thank you! Yeah, I like strange authors. (Pratchett’s weird in a good way) I was surprised to find how few fans Modesitt has on Goodreads, so you’re not the only one. I’ve mostly just read a trilogy by the more popular authors, so they didn’t make the list. Thank you! hehe yeah, I get stuck on authors and don’t branch out.
But, but in Clockwork Princess…argh I can’t even say it without spoiling it! I found it too angsty and too centred around the love triangle. Did love the first one though 🙂 I’ve only read four or five Dresdons, but the one I liked most was the one that started with the ghost in the hospital with the baby..I think it was with Michael.
See I thought Clockwork Princess had a happy ending! Yeah Clare has a bit too much romance for me, but I love her characters and worlds.
I think that one’s Grave Peril (Book 3) Yeah the Dresden Files are good, especially the middle ones once he hits his stride, but before the page count goes up.
It’s funny that even though you have branched out in your reading that Harry Potter still made your list. You can’t go wrong with GoT, and I just purchased the first two Dresden Files titles in audiobook earlier this week, can’t wait to start ’em!
Of course Harry Potter made the list! (Plus I may have cheated and counted the short stories.) Most of the new authors I’ve tried haven’t written enough books to make the list yet. There’s a reason why Game of Thrones is so popular, though I’m surprised at how many people haven’t read the books. Oh, I hope you enjoy the Dresden files! And the middle books in the series are even better than the first ones. 🙂
out of this list, i’ve only read jk rowling, cassie clare and rick riordan. *sighs* I MUST GET TO THE OTHERS SOON! I absolutely adored mark of athena, probably one of my favourites too, especially because the percabeth reunion was so beautiful *wipes tears away*
lovely post! <33
The Percabeth reunion was the perfect! I know how you feel I’m always find new great books that I haven’t read yet. I recommend starting with Pratchett, he’s my favorite. 🙂 Thank you!
Hmm 🙂 great list ^^ definitely included my favorite ones too, except I haven’t read L.E. Modesitt Jr nor Jim Butcher. I must give them a try.
More of my favorite authors hmm… Philip Pullman (favorite: His Dark Materials) Anthony Horowitz (favorite: Alex Rider), Eoin Colfer (favorite: Artemis Fowl), Stephen King and his son Joe Hill both write very well (favorites: Talisman, 20th Century Ghosts short stories) Diana Gabaldon (favorite: Outlander…as it’s so long and books are bricks and I love bricks and…) Neil Gaiman (favorites: Stardust, Neverwhere & Graveyard Book. Patrick Rothfuss (Name of the Wind… I culd make a really long comment of this 😀
Thank you! We must have similar tastes. 😉 I don’t think many people have read Modesitt based on his Goodreads and he’s one of my favorites! He does have a unique writing style, he likes to describe the most arbitrary things. (I skip those paragraphs) Jim Butcher is good, I like that he adds humor and mystery to fantasy.
I haven’t read Philip Pullman yet, I’ve been meaning to for a long time. (I finally bought his books last summer) I just got the first three books of Artemis Fowl! I want to read Outlander too.
I loved Good Omens which Neil Gaiman wrote with Pratchett, and his Stardust.
hehe nothing wrong with a long comments. 🙂 There’s just too many good books out there!
I’ve tried a few of the authors you have on here! Cassandra Clare, Rick Riordan, and J.K. Rowling of course being a few of my favs!:) I like the post!
You have good taste in books. 😉 Thanks! Do you have a blog too? I couldn’t find one and I always like to visit the people who visit me.
Okay, you absolutely put me to shame. *hangs head* I barely read more than, like two or three books by an author before I’m off exploring other things. I’M THAT BAD. I’ve read 1 Rick Riordan and like 1 Terry Pratchett (Good Omens, although I just read the graphic novels of The Colour of Magic and I LOVED it. I’m totally wanting to read the actual novel now). xD I think the most author I’ve read from is Lemony Snicket. (See? What a fail I am. He’s like an MG author.) I’ve read 19 books by him.
Don’t feel bad! I haven’t read very many authors! (Because I get stuck once I find one I like) I LOVE Terry Pratchett! 🙂 I didn’t even know there was a graphic novel! Must get one! Some people don’t like the color of magic, but it’s one of my favorites! I love the cowardly Rincewind and his luggage! 19 books is great! I’ve never read a book by Snicket, but I really should. I think my sister even owns a few. There’s nothing wrong with middle grade! Percy Jackson and Harry Potter are some of my favorite books.
I would love to figure out my own count on Goodreads, but I’ve only been on GR for a few years and I basically started my list when I joined, I didn’t go back and put in everything I’d read before then. So my list wouldn’t be accurate. But it would be fun to go through my bookshelves and try to come up with it that way!
I didn’t join Goodreads until late 2012, but I went through and tried to remember all of the books I’d read in the last few years. Most of the authors I really like I had to own all of their books, so it wasn’t too hard. I hope you can figure it out! 🙂
Really interesting read. Azkaban is my fave Harry Potter story. And Asimov rules! Have you read Nightfall?
Thank you. I love the marauders, I only wish they’d gotten their own book. Yep, I’ve read Nightfall. (Both versions actually, the original and the Silverberg one.) Asimov does rule, I don’t know how he came up with so many ideas. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
There’s another version? Great you’ve read so much of him. I’m a big fan of Bradbury too.
Yeah Silverberg expanded the short story into a novelette, but I didn’t care for his additions. I like Silverberg as an author, but I think it’s just too hard to try to add to someone else’s story. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/99245.Nightfall
I’ve never read Bradbury. He’s been on my to read list forever.
I’ve really enjoyed Moist’s storyline – I’ve just bought Raising Steam and I can’t wait to see what happens.
Jim Butcher is one of my favorites! Aside from the Dresden Files, I’ve also read Furies of Calderon, Book one in the Codex Alera and it was fantastic.
I’m hoping to get Rising Steam for christmas. Moist is such an interesting character, because con men in fantasy usually don’t get their own stories.
I own the first 3 Codex Alera books, but I haven’t read them yet. I haven’t liked the last few Dresden Files as much so I’ve sort of stopped reading them. I could go for a good reread though, maybe that’s my problem.
I have read the first 12 of Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth Series multiple times. I also own them. I’m hard pressed to pick a favourite, but Faith of the Fallen is pretty close I reckon. I didn’t hink much of the Omen Machine, I’ll have to read it again before I buy it.
I haven’t read J.K.Rowling at all or some of the other authors you have mentioned. Love Terry Pratchett, but only own one book. I expect to buy the Game Of Thrones eventually.
My novel has multiple points of view and I was wondering how to handle many POV changes and really appreciated seeing how George R. R. Martin did it – simply giving each POV change their own named page. And Claire the only one, I think, in first person.
Great reading list for me. I’m off to Goodreads to update my to-read list. 🙂
oops, Catelyn, not Claire. 😮
I’m happy to find another Sword of Truth fan! I only started them because my sister kept talking about how good they were. (Don’t tell her she was right) I stopped after Omen Machine, because that same sister read the first three in the new ‘series’ and said they weren’t very good. I forced spoilers out of her and agreed.
Terry Pratchett and Martin are both excellent authors!
Martin really does a great job of showing how to do multiple points of view successfully. I think it helped too that most of the characters came together in the first book and then slowly added more story lines and characters.
Thanks! I’m glad I could help add to your list! 🙂
