Similar to my awards post, I’ve been tagged to do various book tags, but haven’t gotten them posted, so I’m combining a couple!
The main reason for this post is I have nothing to post. Last week I read a total of 19% in one book. (Hopefully I’ll get it read before Thursday.)
TO BE READ TAG
- How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
Keep track? I don’t really keep track. I’m trying, but there are tons of freebies on my Kindle, and some still written on sticky notes that I haven’t gotten on my Goodreads to read list yet.
- Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?
As of Christmas last year both! Half on my shelves and half on Ken (My kindle. Get it? He’s a plastic fake imitation.)
It’s totally random, except for arcs. I always read those first and I try to read them in the order I get them. I usually can’t wait to read them, so I just write the review and save it for a month before the publication date.
4 A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?
I’m going by Goodreads, so these are ones that have been on my list for a little over a year. (as opposed to been there for years) American Gods, The Name of the Wind, Darkest Minds, The Way of Kings, Monstrous (Not out yet, but been on my list for over a year), Snuff By Terry Pratchett (I got it for Christmas right after it came out two years ago, but I’m still I’m but saving it!)
Vicious By VE Schwab. I love a good villain or antihero.
- A book in your TBR strictly because of it’s beautiful cover.
Firebolt, Tortured Souls, Illusions of Fate, & The Secret Eater (I can’t resist pretty covers!)
- A book in your TBR that you never plan on reading.
I want/plan to read them all! (Well maybe not all the freebies on my Kindle)
2015 is going to be a super year for books! I can’t wait for: The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard 1), Fairest (Cinder 3.5), Six of Crows (Dregs 1 Grisha spinnoff), The Copper Gauntlet (Iron Trial 2), and Lady Midnight (Dark Artifices 1)
- A book in your TBR that everyone recommends to you.
10. Number of books in your TBR.
Okay, I might be a book hoarder, but I recently cleaned off all of my bookcases, so it’s not nearly as bad as it was. I think my willingness to part with some books proves I’m not really a hoarder. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway.
183 Owned not read
242 Goodreads to read list
141 Goodreads might read list
THE BOOKSHELF TAG
Throne of Glass, & The Book Thief. Both look good and bloggers I trust liked them, but I’m told they make people cry and I don’t like sad books.
- Pick one book that helped introduce you to a new genre.
Hunger Games. The book that started it all. After that I was addicted to Young Adult
- Find a book that you want to reread.
Harry Potter, Terry Pratchett, Jim Butcher
Yes, Chaos Walking *sniffles*
- If your house was burning down and all of your family and pets were safe, which book would you go back inside to save?
A photo book. I don’t have any books that are worth anything or that I’m overly sentimental about. (Oddly enough, because I’m sentimental about everything)
- Is there one book on your bookshelf that brings back fond memories
The Hobbit, Narnia, Harry Potter. (I have a good memory and all of these have happy memories attached. Being read them when I was little and listening to Harry Potter with my dad.)
So many! Harry Potter, Christopher Pike, Pratchett, Butcher, Clare, Asimov, I’ll just list all of my favorite authors here.
- Do you have any autographed books?
Nope. I’ve never been to a book signing. One day!
- Find the book that you have owned the longest.
Grimm’s Fairy Tales (which used to be my mom’s)
10. Is there a book by an author that you never imagined you would read or enjoy?
Mortal Instruments. Everything I’d heard about it didn’t sound like me, I’m not really one for romance, but I loved the world and the characters.
I’m tagging everyone! Hehe! I can’t just list people, because I’d feel terrible if I forgot anyone, so everyone is tagged. If you want to do it go ahead.
When was the last time you were in a reading slump? What book got you out of it? My last one was in February and I was saved by the Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games was the one I was going to recommend! It always works. The only problem is, I get stuck re-reading it over and over and never want to read a new book! Do you think maybe a change of pace would work? Like, a different genre or something? Maybe a “fluffy” book, since you just read such an action packed one?
And why do you wish you hadn’t read Chaos Walking? I love that series SO much! Also, your TBR is so healthy, I am impressed. I am with you though, too many Kindle freebies that I will likely never, ever read. Ugh. Great post 🙂
Thanks for trying to help me out of my slump, you’re sweet. I hadn’t thought of trying a different genre. I do like my action books. Maybe it’s just that I’m behind on arcs so I feel like I HAVE to read them? The Hunger Games so saved me last time! Maybe I need a good reread. Yeah, I get stuck easily too.
It’s not that I wish I hadn’t read Chaos Walking, but it really wasn’t the book for me. It was too sad! I also didn’t appreciate the cliffhangers. Kindle freebies are the best! My list is healthy? Cool! Thanks. 🙂
Thank goodness for Goodreads, because it would have helped me answer a lot of these questions if they were posed to me. It’s so hard to keep track of my TBR these days.
I know, Goodreads is a lifesaver! I don’t know what I ever did without it! (Lot and lost of sticky notes)
I’ve been in a few really bad reading slumps this year. They were awful! I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things 😀
I hate reading slumps! I’m sorry to hear you had a few of them this year, but I’m glad you’re getting back to ‘normal’. 😉
I cried so much during The Book Thief! It’s a beautiful story, but so sad!
See, that’s why I haven’t read it yet! Everyone says it’s so good, but so sad! But it’s narrated by Death and that just sounds cool! I love the Discworld books that are narrated by Death.
I’ve been putting off reading the Book Thief also. When I’m in a book slump Harry Potter always snaps me out of it. Combining the tags was a great idea Molly 🙂
Thanks, these tags just seemed to go together. 🙂 I want to read the Book Thief, I’m just afraid of the sad. (Maybe I’ll cheat and see who dies first, because with a book narrated by Death I’m thinking that’s why it’s sad.) Harry Potter always saves me, but then I get stuck reading nothing but Harry Potter.
American Gods may be my favorite book. You should move it =)
Glad I am not the only one who picks the next book off the pile completely on a whim, no way could i schedule things. Oh, and my oldest book is my dad’s copy of Tom Sawyer, which I still reread almost every year.
American Gods has been on my list FOREVER! Oooh, I so have to get to it!
haha yeah, I just read just whatever I feel like at the moment. Always nice not to be alone in my idiosyncrasies. 😉 I love books that have memories! Sad fact: my mom (who’s a fifth grade teacher) had to take Tom Sawyer off the shelf, the kids couldn’t understand it anymore.
LMAO I love that you named you kindle Ken! You’ve just tempted me to add Firebolt to my to-read shelf by sharing that cover. Urgh! I haven’t read The Hunger Games yet, but my library has the audiobooks, so SOON my pretties.
I name everything! 🙂 I know, the cover of Firebolt is so pretty! The book sounds pretty good too. You should read the Hunger Games. It’s definitely worth the read, plus then you’ll know what everyone else is talking about. lol @ soon, I totally read that in the voice of the wicked witch. 😉
I can’t really count the books in my TBR pile. Goodreads is no help, because my “want to read” list includes books that I don’t own yet.
I’ve been in a reading slump lately, too. I’m making a concerted effort to get through Rysa Walker’s Timebound, and I did manage to get through about 11% of it yesterday. Unfortunately, a full 21 pages of that was info-dump. I am now exhausted and am dreading picking the book back up.
I love the name of your Kindle! I have an old Kobo somewhere, but I never bothered naming it. At this point, I’d probably have to go with some acronym-type name like OTWADeB (Obsolete Technology With A Dead Battery).
That’s why I have two Goodreads lists, one want to read and one owned and not read. 🙂 (I made owned not read exclusive so it’s up at the top like my want to read list)
I’m sorry to hear you’re having reading troubles too. I’ve heard good things about Timebound, but that doesn’t sound so good. The book I’m reading now is good, but it’s got distracting errors.
Thank you! 🙂 I like naming things. lol @ Obsolete
I love the authors you put for ones you want to reread!
And your TBR is broken down really well I should look at mine and see what it is realistically LOL. I’m almost scared.
Thank you, they’re my favorites! 🙂 Thanks, I like organizing things and my to read list was a mess. lol yeah, that sounds like a lot of work.
The Book Thief is definitely sad, but depending on how easy it is to make you cry you may not! I usually bawl during even slightly sad books, surprisingly with The Book Thief I cried at a part that really wasn’t even that sad! It was very bizarre, but I also read most of this book on my commute to and from school so that’s a sure-fire way to stop yourself from crying! I have also been meaning to pick up Throne of Glass, but I didn’t realize it was cry-worthy, thanks for the heads up!
I cry pretty easily and form attachments to fictional characters. Yeah, reading in public is a good way for me to control my emotions, either that or look nuts trying not to cry or laugh. I didn’t realize Throne of Glass was a crying book either, but several reviews that I’ve read lately said that series made them cry. Glad I could warn you. 🙂
Those covers are amazing especially Illusions of Fate. I don’t think I want to know how many books are on my TBR pile. Maybe I’ll count them one day, but I’m not sure if I want to find out, haha. I can’t wait for all the books in 2015 though.
I’m so attracted to pretty covers! I’ve been working on figuring out my to read lists this fall. So many good books I want to read! haha yeah I know how you feel, I couldn’t believe how many books I owned that I hadn’t read. There are so many good books coming out next year! 🙂
I’m sadistic in that I love a book that makes me cry…. I love doing tags and might have to do the Bookshelf one as it’s one I haven’t done.
As for book slumps I’ve been in and out of one for months now. I generally try switching up what I’m reading, if I’ve been reading a lot of contemporaries I switch to fantasy. if I’ve been reading a lot of long complicated books I switch to light and fluffy contemporary. Rereading also always helps, slipping back into the pages of an old favorite, just feels so comfy, you know?
Most recently I had a small minor reading slump that lasted two weeks or so and came from reading two epic books in a row and then nothing else seemed to measure up. Then I read Poison Study and it’s really good and got me into a lovely fantasy mood which I am now happy to indulge in. =)
Hope you get over you’re slump soon!
Tags are so much fun! Yeah lots of people like books that make them cry, you aren’t alone there.
Thanks for the tips to get out of my slump. I really only read the same kinds of books. Maybe I’ll go for a lighter middle grade or a reread. The problem with that is I get stuck so easy when I start to reread a series, I like comfy as you said. But right now I want to write reviews on books and though I could probably gush for days about my favorite authors, but they wouldn’t really be ‘reviews’. I’m glad your reading is going better. Poison Study is on my to read list, so I look forward to your review.
Thanks! 🙂
Ok, you need to drop everything and read Snuff. Seriously, this needs to be done asap 😀
haha I know, I’m terrible! I was going to once I got Raising Steam for Christmas! I can’t help it I want it to last as long as possible! I’m going to have to do a reread first, at least of the Guards books. Did you hear he’s writing another Tiffany Aching?
I’m so excited for Lady Midnight! I wish I could transition more to e-books and have a more even collection like you do…and I love the name of your e-reader! Too funny!
Lady Midnight looks so good, I only hope there’s more Jem and Tessa! I never thought I’d like my kindle as much as I do! hehe Thanks. 🙂
Jem and Tessa! After Clockwork Princess I’m so curious to how the rest of their story pans out!
Me too! I expected there to be more in City of Heavenly Fire and then she backed up their timeline. I heard they’re going to get married, I hope we’re ‘there’ for it.
THRONE OF GLASS *flails* The first book probably won’t make you cry, but Crown of Midnight broke my heart and so did The Assassin’s Blade. Heir of Fire is a lot of character development for Celaena and it was so sad to see her hit rock bottom (but I didn’t cry). ANYWAY.
My Goodreads shelves help me keep track of my TBR. I have separate shelves depending on what a book is (like tbr-first-in-series and tbr-sequels and tbr-stand-alones), as well as whether it’s an ARC, e-ARC, comic, graphic novel, etc. Anything I own is put on the actual to-read shelf so that I know I own it and can read it at any time. Lol, my shelves are very meticulously organized.
I enjoyed The Infernal Devices more than The Mortal Instruments so I strongly recommend it. In just 3 books it completely surpassed TMI’s 6 (in my opinion, anyway). I’m excited for her new series, though! I hope it’s a good one.
Everyone has that reaction to Throne of Glass, it’s so good, but heartbreaking.
I don’t know what I’d do without Goodreads. (Lost of sticky notes.) I have different to be read lists too. Mine are by how much I want to read the book, but I like the way you do it too. My shelves weren’t organized, but I just went through all the books I own this fall and got all the ones I’m keeping on Goodreads!
I like the Infernal Devices more too! I think just because the main character was a warlock. I loved Jem too! I can’t wait for Dark Artifices! I hope there’s more Jem and Tessa! I think the plot is that she falls for her parabotai, but I liked the older brother that wound up with the wild hunt better.
OMG THE DARKEST MINDS. DO IT. BINGE IT. We’re at the end now! It’s a pretty good dystopia considering all the ones out there–the first book is the weakest as book two comes back strong. You’ll want to read it. Plus, bonus–we get actual curse words instead of those “mild” substitutes that authors love that fudging and whatnot (those make me want to puke).
I feel like with everyone raving about Cracked that maybe I should give it a go as well. It surely does sound like a good one! I have such fond memories of HP (oh don’t we all). Back to the days when it was all simply, right 😉
PS. I’m very much appreciating the name of your kindle. Ken. Wow. Ingenious, really.
Darkest minds does sound good. I love things with supers powers, I’ve always wanted one. Yay for no fake swear words.
Cracked does look good and people I trust say it’s good so I definitely have to read it soon. That’s what I love about Harry Potter, all the memories I have of reading it over the years! Oh what I wouldn’t give to go back in time.
PS Thanks! 😀
I have had The Fault in Our Stars in my possession to read for two years. I really want to read it- but I am afraid to read it because I heard it is so sad.
I love listening to Harry Potter. I listen to a little every day. 🙂
Yeah, it’s one of those books where everyone says they sobbed, but also loved it. Personally I prefer happy books.
I haven’t listened to Harry Potter in years, I should get out the old audio books again one of these days.
Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
I’m pretty random with what I want to read next as well. I hate the pressure of knowing I have a stack of things to read.
I’m the same way! Knowing I’m behind on arcs is killing me! Even though under ordinary circumstances I’d love to read these books. Yeah, I make no sense.
I hope you get to go to a book signing 🙂
Thanks! I will one day! 🙂
Omg read Cracked!!!!! But does this mean you’ve read Monstrous already?? 😀 Is it amazing??
I only wish I’d read Monstrous! I found the author’s blog forever ago from a synopsis she posted on a forum, needless to say it grabbed me. I’ll have to move Cracked up on my to read list! I’ve only got a few arcs left. 🙂
Throne of Glass is soooo good. I want to read the Book Thief too.
Everyone raves about Throne of Glass, so I’m going to have to read it soon. I look forward to reading what you think about the Book Thief. 🙂
Oooh, I want to do this too! I noticed this same meme / book-tag at On Starships And Dragonwings a week or two ago, so I’ve already been meaning to write my own. 🙂 And I want to read The Book Thief, too! It’s sitting on my bookshelf unread right now.
I love book tags, they’re just so much fun. 🙂 I saw this one on Notebook Sisters and had to do it. The Book Thief sounds so good (I mean it’s narrated by Death) but I’m afraid because every one says it’s sad.

OMG I LOVE YOUR SHELF. IT’S AWESOME
I’ve just zoomed up on it, and you own all of my faves 😉
I’ve heard so many good things about the Infernal Devices. Anyone who’s read it, say that they’ve liked it better than the Mortal Instruments. I can’t wait to start it – currently on CoHF.
ASDFG THRONE OF GLASS JUST *FLAILS*
Also loving the name of your Kindle! Ken. I tried naming my Tab Pyx, short for Pyxis, but it didn’t quite work out…
Thank you! 🙂
Yes I too liked Infernal Devices better. I just liked the characters more. (Including the main character Tessa. And Jem!!)
I NEEEED to read Throne of Glass, but I keep putting it off.
hehe Thanks! 😀 I’m glad I’m not the only one who named my Kindle. (Always nice to address them by name when yelling at them)
