2014 books, 2014 books I missed, 2014 releases, book haul, top 10, top 10 tuesday, top ten, Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To, top ten tuesday
(Two in a row! Though I might have written this yesterday.)
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. They come up with top ten lists that people can blog about every week.
I have 125 books on my want to read list that were published in 2014, so this was the hardest list to make yet!
1. Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1) by Sara Raasch
In a world with four kingdoms named after the seasons, winter has been defeated. The survivors seek to steal back winter’s magic. Meira an orphan, secretly in love with her best friend the crown prince, sets off alone to recover an ancient locket that can restore winter’s magic.
Epic fantasy, magic, and political intrigue, yes, yes and yes!
Why Haven’t I read it yet? My library hold hasn’t come in.
2. Trial by Fire (Worldwalker, #1) by Josephine Angelini
Lily suffers from life-threatening allergies. When she wishes she could disappear at a party she discovers she really did, into another version of her home town of Salem. In this other Salem magic exists and strongest and evilest witch is her alternate Lillian.
It has magic and parallel universes, what’s not to like?
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I’m cheap and it’s expensive.
3. Half Bad (Half Bad, #1) by Sally Green
Two warring factions of witches live in England. Nathan is an abomination, caged, beaten, and trained to kill. The son of the most violent witch, Nathan has to track him down and receive the three gifts that will awaken his magic.
I’m afraid it will be dark, but witches and a supposedly evil boy and magic. I need this.
Why Haven’t I read it yet? Some reviewers I trust had trouble with the slow pacing, so I keep choosing other books first.
4. A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1) by Claudia Gray
Marguerite’s parents are scientists. Their latest project, the Firebird, enables someone to jump between parallel worlds. Her father is murdered and the killer, their lab assistant Paul, runs away to another universe. Seeking revenge Marguerite follows him.
Revenge and parallel universes. 🙂 Love triangles. 😦
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I’m afraid the romance will overshadow the plot. Who has time to be caught between two guys when avenging their parents murder anyway? (My library has it, so I’ll probably read it soon.)
5. The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars, #1) by Rob Thomas & Jennifer Graham
Veronica mars is a spunky little blond private investigator. She’s clever, and snarky. Based on a tv show (which I loved!) where she was in high school. The book series takes place after the movie (also good) and continues her adventures. Once again a PI (in the movie she became a lawyer. Yuck!) and back to living in Neptune.
I was so sad when Veronica Mars was cancelled. The book is written by the writers of the original, so I have high hopes.
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I don’t usually read mystery, but I think I need to make an exception for Veronica.
6. Prince of Fools (The Red Queen’s War, #1) by Mark Lawrence
The Red Queen is growing old, but she is still feared by the other Kings. Her most powerful weapon is the Silent Sister. Her grandson is the most unlikely of heroes, a drinker and gambler who’d rather love than fight. But when the Silent Sister sets a trap for him, he has to journey across the empire to break the curse.
A prince who is a coward and uses his wits to escape danger and witty one liners, gimme!
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I own but haven’t read Prince of Thorns and figure I should always read the first (cheaper) series first. (Same for Half a King by Abercombie.)
Dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George long ago. They’ve been rebuilding their numbers in secret, hiding as humans. Ember is a young dragon who only wishes to be normal and Garret is a member of the order sent to kill young dragons.
Dragons, a forbidden romance, and dragons.
Why Haven’t I read it yet? The reviews are mixed. I’m afraid there is too much every day stuff and too few dragons. (again it’s at the library so I’ll probably read it this year)
8. Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1) by Danielle L. Jensen
A witch’s curse has bound trolls underground for centuries. When Cécile is kidnapped and taken to the land of the trolls she surprisingly makes friends with them. She learns that the half humans half trolls are treated badly, but there is a rebellion brewing. She’s forced marry to the prince who is of course gorgeous (yes a pretty troll) and the secret leader of the rebellion.
TROLLS!
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I have no excuse since I’ve had it on my Kindle for months.
9. Nice Dragons Finish Last (Heartstrikers, #1) by Rachel Aaron
As the smallest dragon of the clan, Julius survives by staying quiet and meek. Fed up by his weakness, his mother seals him in human form. He has one month to prove himself or he’s stuck like this forever. In a city of mages where dragons are considered monsters he’s going to need some help.
Yes, more dragons. I love the whole he’s thought of as a monster but he’s good thing!
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I just learned about it from Pabkins.
10. California Bones (Daniel Blackland #1) by Greg Van Eekhout
People eat bones and gain magic abilities. Daniel’s dad is a powerful magician, so other magicians attack him and yeah ‘gain his powers’. Years later Daniel’s become a thief and his uncle wants him to break into a vault and steal back his father’s sword.
A magical heist along with one of the strangest magic systems I’ve heard of, how could I resist?
Why Haven’t I read it yet? I just bought it on the Book Outlet Boxing Day sale, so I will change this soon!
Other Books On My List: Dorothy Must Die, The Kiss of Deception, The Midnight Queen, & Girl in the Well.
Speaking of the Book Outlet Boxing Day Sale, here’s my haul! (Bunny Photobomb)
Some I’ve already read and loved, (Scarlet, Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm) and some I really shouldn’t have bought, (Jenna Fox, Paranormalcy, Unearthly) but I can’t resist a sale!
Okay, so it becomes really obvious when reading this how cheap I am… I love books, but $15 for a book I don’t know I’ll like? I can’t do it!
How do you buy most of your books? New, used, preorder, sale?
I buy most (like 95%) of my books used. The rest are sale Kindle books. (other than my bookoutlet order above)

Aaaggghhhh! Molly you have some amazing books on your list that you must get to ASAP! Like California Bones and Stolen Songbird! I also want to read Half Bad and A Thousand Pieces of You. Good luck!
Molly Mortensen said:
Thanks! That works out well since those are the two I already own! 🙂 I hope you enjoy Half Bad and A Thousand Pieces of You. You’ll probably get to them before I do, so yay this way I can read your reviews. 🙂
Caught Read Handed said:
Meh. I wasn’t super impressed with A Thousand Pieces of You – pretty much for the love triangle (square?). The world building was cool, but the romance annoyed me.
Oooo. I got Pivot Point from Book Outlet too! I’m looking forward to reading that soon.
My TTT!
Molly Mortensen said:
A love square? Oh no! Yeah that’s why I haven’t read it yet. Some parts sound so cool, but others not so much. I look forward to hearing what you think of Pivot Point! I don’t expect I’ll get to it soon, too many other books in the way.
Caught Read Handed said:
Yep. A love square. It’s very strange and uncomfortable. Haha. Same here. I’ve got SO MANY books to read.
Molly Mortensen said:
Yikes! Okay, I’ll put that one off a bit even if it is at the library. It’s terrible! I have Christmas books, Book Outlet books, books I bought and didn’t get to and books my library just got! I might have to do a post just to have help narrowing it down.
Natalie @ Book Lovers Life said:
You need to read most of these but especially Snow Like Ashes, A Thousand Pieces of Me and Stolen Songbird. They are epic!!!! I have Nice Dragons Finish Last as an Audiobook for review and cant wait to listen to it.
Those are awesome books you got. I wish we had somewhere like that here in Ireland!!!
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m glad you liked those three. Since I have Songbird on my Kindle and the others are at my library I have a feeling I’ll finally get to them soon. That’s so awesome that you have Nice Dragons Finish Last! I hope it’s as good as it sounds!
Thanks! It would be great if BookOutlet was world wide. This was my first order. I just found out about it and now I sort of wish I hadn’t.
kindlemom1 said:
Some of these are shamefully on my list as well. There aren’t enough hours in the day!
Molly Mortensen said:
There just isn’t enough time! I couldn’t believe how many 2014 releases were on my list when I sorted it!
Nathan said:
I just finished Half Bad and didn’t have pacing issues. There is a unique PoV switching that I could see causing some issues though.
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m glad that the pacing is good. I don’t usually mind point of view shifts, even if they’re a little different. Thanks!
ChrissiReads said:
Looks like you’ve got a great selection of books to get stuck into Molly. I enjoyed Half Bad!
Molly Mortensen said:
Yay another person who liked Half Bad! I’m glad I put it on my list after all. 🙂
saraletourneau said:
Snow Like Ashes would be one of my mine. But I’m having a bit of a “love triangle” fatigue, so I’ve been hesitant to get it even though a lot of readers seem to like or love the book. I’ve also heard good things about Stolen Songbird.
Ooooh, you bought Stormdancer! Me too. 😀 The premise sounds so unique and awesome, I don’t think I’ll wait too long before I read it. I also finished Shadow And Bone last week, and LOVED it!
Molly Mortensen said:
Love triangles can get annoying, but I’ve only read positive reviews too. It’s mostly the trolls that I want to read Stolen Songbird for although I wish they were at least green.
Stormdancer does sound good and the last book just came out so it’s good timing. Yay I look forward to your reviewer! I’m glad, I loved Shadow and Bone too, but I liked the second book even better! (I’m pretending the third didn’t happen. Most people loved it though.)
saraletourneau said:
Well, I’m not really sure when I’ll get around to Stormdancer. I WANT to get to it soon, but we’ll see. But whenever I do, I’ll review it. 😉
I’ve heard a lot of people say that Siege And Storm is excellent, even just as good as Shadow And Bone, Interesting that you didn’t care for the last book, though. I’ve read only glowing reviews for it. We’ll have to talk about that some more once I get to it.
Rachel said:
You have to read Snow Like Ashes. Tell the librarian to order more copies. 🙂 Seriously that book was in my top 10 of the year for sure, maybe top 5. I actually haven’t read any of the others on this list, but a lot of them sound really good. Also, you really do have a thing for trolls, don’t you?
Molly Mortensen said:
It’s only available in the online library, but I’m at the top of the queue finally! I’m so glad to hear that it’s that good! I hope you enjoy any of them that you read. hehe I just haven’t read any troll staring books before. I do wish they were at least green though!
Dragana (@BookwormDreams) said:
Yep in A Thousand Pieces of You romance a bit overshadows a plot and it was slower than I expected. Not quick jumps between worlds, you really get to feel the setting before she moves to the next. It has more good things than bad so I still recommend it.
And Stolen Songbird is such a nice book. Reminded me of Seraphina with how intricate heroine’s character is woven.
As for book buying I read mostly ebooks and haunt Amazon for deals and then buy them.
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m still torn on A Thousand Pieces of You, I’ve received conflicting opinions today. I do wish there was more plot and action than romance. I’m glad that the worlds are cool though.
I haven’t read Seraphina yet, but that deserves to bee on another of these lists! I’m glad Stolen Songbird is good.
I’m always on the lookout for Amazon sale books! I added any that sound good to a wishlist so I can check on them, because they aren’t always advertised.
Dragana (@BookwormDreams) said:
Worlds are very cool. There is one with very cool tech I wanna steal, and one set in Russia which had heart-breaking story. As I said not a bad book, but I expected something more like Fringe….
Yes the deals for the books I like are almost never grouped in Kindle monthly deals section. I usually find out some book is on sale via twitter or see the low price accidentally and then browse trough ‘Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought’ section, that’s where I find the best ones…
Claudia {SparrowHawk} said:
We share a few in common: Snow Like Ashes, Talon & Stolen Songbird! I’m super excited about your book haul though; more particularly, about Scarlet! Have you read the novel? Cress?
Sparrow’s TTT
Claudia {SparrowHawk} said:
Doh! I must’ve missed your note at the bottom of your picture; you’ve already read Scarlet! Have you read Cress?
Molly Mortensen said:
I hope you enjoy them once you get to them. 🙂 No worries, I do that too. I have read Cress and I loved it! It was actually my favorite book published last year!
La Coccinelle said:
I want to read A Thousand Pieces of You and Stolen Songbird, too! I have a ton of 2014 releases on my want-to-read list, though; I have no idea how I’d pick just ten.
La Coccinelle said:
Just noticed your book haul (I skimmed too fast the first time). You’ve got some awesome books here… including a few of my all-time favourites! Warm Bodies and The Thief are both awesome. They’re two of my favourite books with first-person male narrators. The Adoration of Jenna Fox is really good, too. Don’t let a few pages of poems put you off; it’s a strong sci-fi story with an interesting message.
Molly Mortensen said:
I don’t know how I picked ten either. This was by far the hardest list post yet!
No worries, I miss stuff all the time. I’m almost finished with Warm Bodies right now and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m glad to hear that about Jenna Fox because I was regretting buying it since I don’t do poems. Thanks!
bookgeeking said:
Stolen songbird is really good. I am looking forward to the next one 🙂
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m glad to hear Stolen Songbird was good. I wasn’t too sure about that one.
bookgeeking said:
It’s a very different view on Trolls than anything I have read before. Was intriguing.
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m glad. I was afraid they’d be too human. I mean, they aren’t even green! lol
lynnsbooks said:
California Bones is one that I want to read too! Plus I love the cover for Talon – it seems to be on a few lists this week. You must read Mark Lawrence – I love his work.
Lynn 😀
Molly Mortensen said:
California Bones sounds strange, but in a good way and Talon could be really good, but I’m not so sure. I’ve heard good things about Lawrence. I’m glad you like him. I just got Prince of Thorns for Christmas!
blodeuedd said:
If we only had a better used books store
Molly Mortensen said:
I am so lucky, our town isn’t even big enough for a bank but we have the best used bookstore ever!
Ana @ Butterflies of the Imagination said:
I really wanted to get to Snow Like Ashes, but I didn’t get to it in 2014. However, my library hold just came in, so soon I plan to gobble it up. 🙂 I buy most of my books from my library’s used book sale, but occasionally, I’ll buy a nonfiction or writing craft book new from Barnes and Noble. I’m not really much of a book buyer anyway, though.
Molly Mortensen said:
Congrats on your library hold finally coming up. I’m number one on my list now. I hope you like it. I occasionally get some at my library’s used sale, but they don’t have a lot of fantasy and no young adult books. I own way too many non fiction books. That’s cool that you like to craft.
Lucia @Reading Is My Breathing said:
Talon is also on my TBR and it sounds really good. But I am also a little bit hesitant because of mixed reviews. Plus I want to read her Blood of Eden series first!
Molly Mortensen said:
That was my same reasoning. Talon sounds awesome, but most people were disappointed by it. Blood of Eden does sound good, but I have the first of her Iron Fey for Kindle so I’ll probably read that first.
bendingoverbookwards said:
Prince of Fools wasn’t on my list, but I’m now super intrigued! I’ve found that doing this list has made me realise that there’s quite a lot of books I really want to read, but am waiting for the right time/mood to strike me…
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m glad that I made you want to read Prince of Fools. It just sounds like my kind of book. I know, I couldn’t believe how many books I haven’t read! I’m such a mood reader too!
patricksponaugle said:
Thank you for sharing your list of books, but also your excuses/reasons for not getting to them.
Once I invent a time machine, I’ll finally be able to do some more reading.
Best of luck in getting your 2014 backlog taken care of!
Molly Mortensen said:
hehe yeah, I’m good at excuses. I know how you feel. Some times it feels like that’s the only time I’d get to them all. Thanks! Happy reading yourself. 🙂
Nobody @ The Story Goes... said:
We have some of the same books this week! Stolen Songbird and Snow Like Ashes, I have no excuses as I own them both, but I’ve only had them for a couple weeks!
I also want to read Talon but I agree doesn’t sound like there’s enough Dragons in it for me!
As for your book outlet haul it looks awesome! I tend to mostly buy new books that I preorder. I like used books(because they’re cheap and I can get more that way!) but I don’t like ordering used off Amazon and don’t have any amazing used bookstores near me so my main option for that it Bookoutlet which I’ve ordered from like three times and never read any of the books I’ve gotten! I’m a bit ashamed of that! =)
Molly Mortensen said:
We usually have some books in common. I’ve owned Stolen Songbird for a while, but I just haven’t felt like it. I think I’ll start with her Fey series instead of Talon, because most people liked that.
Thanks! Anymore if I order used books online I go to thriftbooks.com. They’re usually $4 a piece including shipping. (I just got White Cat by Holly Black)
I’m trying really hard to read all of my bookoutlet order to prove my mother wrong. (I did need that many new books)
stephaniesbookreviews said:
I haven’t read Snow Like Ashes for the same reason! I’m finally in the single digits of the waiting list, though!
Molly Mortensen said:
Congrats! I’m number one on the waiting list finally! I’ve been there for two weeks so it should be soon. I hope you like it once you get to read it. 🙂
stephaniesbookreviews said:
Yay finally! I hope you like it too! I look firward to hearing what you thought about it.
Jess@Fairday's Blog said:
I have a few of these on my list too! I am also glad I am not the only one that has books on my TBR list that I have actually owned for a while. I have one book on my shelf that has been there for over two years and I really wanted it, that is why I got it. But, I know it is sad and I haven’t been able to bring myself to read it. Crazy, right?
I buy many books used or discarded from the library. I also buy books, but I don’t buy a ton of brand new books each year (unless I get gift cards or feel like splurging).
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m terrible. The book sounds so good and then by the time I get it I’m not in the mood anymore. I completely understand. I also have this bad habit of hoarding books I know are going to be great.
I rarely get new books, so this bookoutlet order was a big deal for me. It’s so strange reading a brand new book for a change. I feel like I have to be extra careful with them.
rudejasper said:
125 books! Just from 2014! I was surprised how many were on my list but I don’t think there were quite that many. Before this meme is over though there probably will be:0). The only one on your list I’ve read is the Veronica Mars book and it was really excellent. I just finished a ARC of book 2 in that series and it really looks like it’s going to be a great series that really evokes the same tone and characters of the show. Trial by fire is one I hadn’t heard of and it looks very fun! Happy reading!
P.S. What kind of bunny do you have?
Molly Mortensen said:
Yeah, I couldn’t believe it when I reorganized my goodreads wishlist by date! I’m glad to hear that Veronica Mars was good. I’m always hesitant to read a book based on a show. I hear Logan shows up in the second book, yay! I’ve heard really good things about Trial by Fire. Thanks! Happy reading to you too.
You’re the only one who noticed Bunny. 🙂 He’s a mini rex! Extremely soft and they really have great personalities.
Sydney said:
I missed all of these books, too! Some of them I even forgot came out in 2014 (like Half Bad). I’m so behind on my 2014 reads because I was in a slump for most of the year. It’s really unfortunate, but alas.
I’ve heard great things about the Veronica Mars books! The next one comes out this month and while I own the first one I haven’t read it yet. I really need to, though. Apparently Logan comes back in the 2nd book, and I’m all about Logan. ;D
Your Book Outlet haul is fantastic! I’ve never ordered from them but I love their prices.
Molly Mortensen said:
I hope your slump is over. I missed way too many books! I didn’t realize how many came out in 2014 either until I organized my list.
I’m optimistic about the Veronica Mars books. I know, I love Logan! I can’t believe he isn’t in the first book.
Thanks! This was my first Book Outlet order. 🙂 My goal is to read them all before I order more.
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction said:
What is this Boxing Day book outlet sale? I’ve seen several people mention it. I think I need to be jealous! 🙂
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Molly Mortensen said:
Thanks for feeling like you could ask me this question. 🙂 Book Outlet http://bookoutlet.com/ is a online book seller. They’re usually really cheap but on Boxing day they had everything at 50% off! I’m not sure if you should be jealous or not, because we all got way too carried away!
Mogsy said:
Nice Dragons Finish Last and California Bones! Both books are on my backlist burndown list for 2015 – so help me I will read these books this year!
Molly Mortensen said:
Good luck! I’m half way through California Bones right now and so far it’s really good. 🙂 I just found out there is a sort of sequel coming out at the end of the month and I already want it, so that should tell you something.
Brilliantly Novel said:
Read Snow Like Ashes as soon as humanly possible! It was so good that I’m already planning to re-read it even though it came out, like, a month ago. And A Thousand Pieces of You is fantastic! I didn’t feel like the romance overshadowed the plot, but it is a rather romantic book. Paul. . . sigh.
I also need to read Talon and Stolen Songbird, both of which I have, therefore leaving me with no excuses. Except the fact that I too cannot pass up a good sale and bought a ridiculous amount of books from Book Outlet on Boxing Day as well. You made out with a pretty good haul! Warm Bodies is really funny and I like Partials a whole lot. It was very ‘cinematic’ and I plan on re-reading for one of my challenges this year 🙂
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m so glad to hear you liked A Thousand Pieces of You! I wasn’t sure about it. As long as romance doesn’t over shadow the plot, I’m good. I’m now first on the waiting list for Snow Like Ashes, so soon I will finally be able to read it!
I have Stolen Songbird too, I just haven’t been in the mood. Yeah, I got a little carried away… I’ve already read Warm Bodies and I found it really funny too! I’m glad Partials is good since that’s one of the ones I was regretting buying.
Brilliantly Novel said:
Yay for being first in line! I really think you’ll like Snow Like Ashes!
shannonmiz said:
Snow Like Ashes was good, I think you’ll like it! I do NOT think you’ll like A Thousand Pieces of You. I mean, I thought it was okay, but there is way too much romance-y, angst-y nonsense that I have a feeling you wouldn’t love.
As for my books, I pre order WAY too many. Then I buy them either new, used, on sale, on Kindle… well, you and I both know I have too many books 😉 Hope you get to read these all soon!
Molly Mortensen said:
I hope I like Snow Like Ashes too! I’m finally first on the waiting list! I’ve heard such conflicting things about Thousand Pieces. Thanks, you’re probably right that I won’t like it. I might still have to try it though. (You can tell me I told you so)
haha I think we all have way too many books and I just ordered a few more! Thanks! I hope you get time to read all of your list too!
shereadssheblogs said:
Wow! I’ve seen A Thousand Pieces of You on nearly every list this week and prior to that I hadn’t heard of it! Where have I been hiding while this book made it’s giant splash on the book blogging world?! If you want to which books I did know existed and still didnt read, check out my TTT: http://shereadssheblogs.com/2015/01/13/top-ten-tuesday-2014-releases-that-i-missed/
Molly Mortensen said:
A Thousand Pieces is one of those books that just sounds brilliant, but then got such conflicting reviews, so that’s probably why no one’s read it yet, but it still made all the lists. lol I don’t know. I just found out about a book that was apparently everywhere from one of these lists too.
Melliane said:
Ah yes many interesting books there! Some I should try as well as I have them… So laaaaaaaate!
Molly Mortensen said:
I know how you feel. I’ve missed so many good books and they just keep making more so I’ll never get caught up. It’s even worse when I own them.
Melanie (YA Midnight Reads) said:
Oh yes I need to read A Thousand Pieces of You and Trial by Fire! I’ve been hearing fantastic things for both of them so I’m very excited eeep >.< YES the Veronica Mars book is PURE AWESOME.
Molly Mortensen said:
Yay! I’m glad to hear Veronica Mars was great! Sometimes the book just can’t capture the shows characters. I really want to read Trial By Fire too, but I keep hearing conflicting things about A Thousand Pieces of You, so I probably won’t read that one right away.
Danya @ Fine Print said:
OMG Molly, you need to read the Veronica Mars book. It was so much fun! Actually, I recommend the audiobook – it’s actually narrated by Kristen Bell, so it’s like listening to the voice overs from the show back in the day. And the second book is coming out later this month!
Molly Mortensen said:
I didn’t realize they got Kristen Bell for the audiobook! That’s so cool! Thanks for telling me. Now if only they got Logan for the second one. 🙂

Whenever I read one of your blog posts, my to-read list always tends to grow. Is hits a good thing I’m wondering? 😉
#1 and #8 look very interesting. On the list they go…
Most of my books I buy new. I like my books to be personal to me. I’ll buy used if I have to, but otherwise…
Molly Mortensen said:
Of course it’s a good thing to grow your to read list. lol
I’ve only heard good things about Snow Like Ashes and Stolen Songbird is $1.99 right now for Kindle.
See I’m the opposite. I like used books better because I figure they’ve already been on adventures. 🙂

Great list! I have Talon and A Thousand Pieces of You on my TBR list. I’ll be interested in seeing what you think of Trial By Fire.
Molly Mortensen said:
Thanks! I hope you like Talon and Thousand Pieces of You. Both of those sound so good, but I’m afraid of too much romance. If only my library had Trial by Fire, I’d read it right away! I might have to get a third library card lol.
abibliophobictendencies said:
I read and LOVED Trial by Fire. It started slow but definitely picked up. I pre-ordered this book and ended up only paying like $11.64 for it. Usually I buy my books used. If I cant find them used I wait for sales such as the bookoutlet boxing sale. I also get books of thriftbooks.com because shipping is free and I can choose the condition the book comes in.
Molly Mortensen said:
I’m glad to hear Trial by Fire is good. $11 isn’t bad at all for a pre-order. The book I really want right now is $18 for a pre-order! (California Bones sequel) I love thriftbooks, I get almost all of my online used books there anymore.
Alise (Readers in Wonderland) said:
I’ve seen quite a few negative reviews of A Thousand Pieces of You, which is why I held off on it. I’m still holding out hope though, let me know what you think of it! I also wish I would have gotten to Stolen Songbird, I have no excuse either-my friend bought it for me.
Molly Mortensen said:
Same here. A Thousand Pieces of You sounds so good too, but I’m not sure about all the romance. I’m going to read it this year sometime, so I can screen it for you. I keep meaning to read Stolen Songbird, but then another book catches my eye. I’m such a mood reader.
Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard said:
Most of those are books I’ve heard of, and about half of them are either on my to-read list or my someday list. The one I’m really interested in reading is Rachel Aaron’s Nice Dragons Finish Last – though Stolen Songbird is also pretty tempting. I hope you get to at least some of these this year!

Oh, and I forgot to mention – thanks for the follow! I’m following you on Bloglovin now, too.

We must have similar tastes. Nice Dragons Finish Last sounds really good! I might have to break down and buy it soon. Stolen Songbird is only $1.99 for Kindle, which is why I own it. I keep getting distracted by other books though.
You’re welcome. I love discovering new blogs. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

I’m with you about Talon. I keep seeing reviews saying that the MC is in human for all the time and I’m all “hmmmmmmmmmmm why???” haha
Molly Mortensen said:
I know what you mean. Talon looks so good and I’ve heard such good things about this author, but then thee reviews come out and they say no dragons. What’s up with that?
Lola @ Hit or Miss Books said:
Snow Like Ashes – nice premise!! There was lacking of magic, which I really really wanted for there to be – but nice characters and I like where it is going. (3 stars)
Trial by Fire – Oh, what I loved most from this book was the characters! And there was always those little original details. Like the MC being allergic ahah (3.5 stars)
Half Bad – I don’t rememeber ever reading a book like this one .O.o (3 stars) Not much happening but GREAT MC (I think – of what I remember – didn’t review that one)
A Thousand Pieces of You – DNF
Prince of Fools – I actually started this one some months ago, put it on hold, and finally DNFed. Didn’t like the voice of the MC, really. 😛
Talon – BIG MEH. There didn’t seem to be any dragons and the romance ugh ugh ugh (2 stars)
Stolen Songbird – oh, what a lovely writing style this book contained!! (4 stars)
WOAH, amazing haul!!

Thanks for all of your mini reviews! 🙂
Snow Like Ashes and Trial By Fire are definitely on my going to read sometime this year list, so I’m glad you mostly liked them. I heard that Half Bad was about the character, but since he sounds cool I think that’s a good thing. I was afraid of Thousand Pieces of You and on this post it’s gotten the most mixed opinions… Oh, Prince of Fools sounded really good, so I actually just bought it. Maybe I’ll like him more than you did. *fingers crossed*
I’m glad that you liked Stolen Songbird! I’m going to have to get to that one sooner rather than later.
Thanks! 🙂 I so wish I hadn’t discovered Book Outlet haha!

Hahahah I am so cheap too so WE’RE THE SAME. I keep on relying on my library and hoping that it has all the books, like Snow Like Ashes, and Talon (though yeah the mixed reviews kinda bother me, but as long as I’m not paying for it haha). It just sucks because I have to pay $1 for every book I put on hold, so yeah. BUT WOW AWESOME HAUL! Bookoutlet is the best haha

There’s nothing wrong with cheap! I’m glad to find someone else who’s the same! Books are definitely my weakness though. That’s sad that you have to pay to put a book on hold! Since I discovered the electronic library I’ve become addicted. I don’t even have to leave my house to borrow a book or worry about what those little food crumbs in the book was. *shudders* Thanks! Yeah, I’m not so sure my finding book outlet was a good thing.

I didn’t even finish Trial by Fire, although I was alone in thinking it was dragging. I, too, was put off by the reviews on ‘Talon’. For me, there would have to be loads more dragon action. On your haul, I tried reading ‘Sabriel’ and I only got 1/4 in before giving up. I musn’t be clicking with his descriptive style. Garth Nix fans will be groaning at me !
Oh and on ‘Paranormaly’ and ‘Unearthly’, they are pretty harmless and interesting reads 🙂
I see on twitter you liked the necromancer book. It had all the elements I should love, but the author’s voice lacked emotion. Characters and storyline were good though.
‘Summoning’ is a great read, too. Hope you like that one. Love Kelley Armstrong!

I hadn’t heard that about Trial by Fire. Since it isn’t at the library it will probably be a while before I get to read it anyway. I know, a book about dragons should have you know dragons in it. Yeah, Sabriel is a strange book and it starts really slow. I never did care about the characters but the plot and magic was so cool I wound up liking it.
I’m glad Paranormalcy and Unearthly aren’t bad. Yes I did like the Necromancer book. I really liked the character’s voice, but I like funny narrators. I’ll have to read Summoning soon! I keep getting arcs and it keeps getting pushed back.
Thanks for all of the opinions.
